We had the opportunity to travel around quite a bit this year to see old friends. In my book, old friends are the ones that you can jump right into a middle of a conversation with after being apart for years. They are also the ones that make silence easy. They are the ones you dream about living next door to or vacationing with.
These friends are few and far between for most of us, but they are the best ones to have. Usually the relationships build up over time. Some of my oldest and dearest friends are from my childhood, some are family, and some are from college. In years past, it was phone calls and letters. Now it's occasional emails. Old friends are like a down comforter! Catching up with these friends was definitely the best part of 2008... comfortable and warm! Thanks for having coffee with me late at night over pie! Thanks for letting me rock your baby while we talked! Thanks for sitting with me in church and whispering your dreams! Thanks for trusting me with your heart! Thanks for walking on the cold beach with me! Thanks for meeting me at Starbucks! Thanks for sharing your house anytime! Thanks for putting up with me! :)
Here's to hoping there will be more opportunities in 2009! (Now, if only I owned a BIG beach house...!!)
